In this segment from the Human Spark host Alan Alda visits the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig, Germany, where the Neanderthal Genome Project was done. A team of scientists and biologists extract DNA samples from Neanderthal remains found in Vindija Cave, Croatia. The project aims to decipher the entire genetic code of the Neanderthals so it can be directly compared to our own in order to explain why the spark failed to ignite in Neanderthals.
