War and the Rise of Women's Resistance in Liberia

This video from Women War & Peace provides historical background for the war in Liberia. Leymah Gbowee and other women describe what life was like after Charles Taylor took power. Striving for peace, Gbowee and other women started the Christian Women's Peace Initiative. Soon, this expanded to include Muslim women as well. Putting their religious differences aside, these women banded together to fight for peace in their nation. First, they focused their efforts on leadership within their mosques and churches, hoping to influence Taylor and opposing warlords.
