Dream Carver

This video segment from Between the Lions is an animated version of the published book Dream Carver in which a young boy has dreams of carving large animals out of wood instead of the small animals his family has been creating for generations. He pursues his dream even though his father discourages him, but in the end these beautiful carved animals are embraced by everyone, including his father, when they are displayed at the village fiesta. The story focuses on "d" and "dr" sounds and key vocabulary includes: wood carver, carvings, fiestas, quetzal, squirrel, gazelle, frog, and rabbit. This video segment provides a resource for Fluency, Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Text Comprehension, Vocabulary, Language and Vocabulary Development, Letter Knowledge Awareness, and Phonological Awareness.
