This video segment from the PBS series Finding Your Roots features Condoleezza Rice as she reflects on growing up in Birmingham, Alabama during the era of Jim Crow. Rice recalls the day four young African American girls were killed when a bomb was detonated at their church on September 15, 1963. Carol Denise McNair was eleven years old; Cynthia Wesley, Addie Mae Collins, and Carole Robinson were all fourteen years old. In addition to the four deaths, over twenty people were injured by the bomb.
