Lab: Centripetal Force
This is a lab to investigate centripetal force. There is a lab guide and two scaffolded sheets to be used to help students write the lab report. I also have included a sample student lab report for the teacher and/or students to model their report from.
Notes for Teacher:
- Materials needed per group: Mass set, fishing line, ruler, metal washer, stop watch, 3” PVC pipe with ½” diameter, goggles
- This lab requires a demonstration of how to properly count the revolutions. Students tend to count these incorrectly. Modeling how to properly count will help with error.
- Students must wear goggles in this lab.
- Students may need help setting up their graphs. They will need instruction on how to do a best fit line as well as how to take the slope of that best fit line.
- Check the lesson for a student sample of a complete lab report.
- Both scaffolds provided are to help facilitate writing the lab report. Students can use the two additional sheets to help build a complete lab report.
