Graphing & Slope: Position, Time and Velocity: Student Packet

This resource contains the student packet for a lesson which uses PHET. This assignment can be used to teach students how to take data, graph data and then analyze the data using slope. In this lesson, students will be introduced to taking and graphing data as well as the physical meaning of that data. This lesson is a great bridge for math teachers who want to teach graphing and slope in the context of real life data. This lesson can also be used in a physics class to teach the concepts of motion: position, time and velocity.

Math Content Standards Addressed:

8.EE.B.5Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as the slope of the graph. Compare two different proportional relationships represented in different ways. For example, compare a distance-time graph to a distance-time equation to determine which of two moving objects has greater speed.HSS-ID.C.7Interpret the slope (rate of change) and the intercept (constant term) of a linear model in the context of the data.

ELD Standards Addressed:

ELD.PII.9-10.6.Ex Combine clauses in a growing number of ways to create compound and complex sentences that make connections between and link concrete and abstract ideas, for example, to express a reason (e.g., He stayed at home on Sunday in order to study for Monday's exam) or to make a concession (e.g., She studied all night even though she wasn't feeling well).
