California Common Core State Standards - English Language Arts
- RF.K.3.a Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary or many of the most frequent sound for each consonant.
- RF.K.3.b Associate the long and short sounds with common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels. (Identify which letters represent the five major vowels [Aa, Ee, Ii, Oo, and Uu] and know the long and short sound of each vowel. More complex long vowel graphemes and spellings are targeted in the grade 1 phonics standards.)
Short E Reading Passage
This short vowel E worksheet contain the following activities:
1. Segment and Blend Words
- Students read a list of CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) and simple words with short vowel sounds.
- Dots are provided under each letter to help with phoneme segmentation and blending
2. Read the Story
- A short passage using the words from the segmenting activity is included.
- The passage features simple sentences designed to reinforce phonics skills and reading fluency.
3. Sequence the Story Using Pictures
- Three numbered boxes are provided for students to place the cut-out images in the correct order.
- Below the boxes, there are three cut-out pictures related to the story that students must cut and paste in the correct sequence.
These worksheets help with early literacy skills by focusing on phonics, reading comprehension, and story sequencing.
