• Students will analyze the business history of Sarah Breedlove who used the business name Madam C.J. Walker. After reading a case study, students will answer questions individually and as a class to better understand how African American entrepreneurs struggled to succeed in the post-Civil War period of American history through the early 20th century. Students will conclude by analyzing social, political, and financial obstacles that still exist today and how they can work to eliminate these obstacles. This project is designed to take place over a week but it is up to the teacher to decide the pacing.
