In the first year of the Early Learning Literacy Project, our focus centered on establishing a strong foundation in Reading Foundational Skills. We emphasized the critical role these skills play in early literacy development, helping young learners build the necessary building blocks for reading fluency and comprehension. A key component of our approach involved using Read Alouds as a powerful tool to enrich vocabulary and enhance comprehension. Through thoughtfully planned Read Aloud sessions, educators learned techniques for introducing new vocabulary in context and engaging students in discussions that deepen their understanding of the text. This approach not only supports language development but also fosters a love for reading, setting the stage for lifelong literacy success.
