Indigenous Women for Federal Indian Law

The traditional roles of women throughout different tribes changed drastically with colonization, through our learning lab collection we wanted to highlight some of the incredible Native American women who impacted federal Indian law and policy. Our collection includes five Native American women throughout American history that have made significant changes using federal Indian law and policy to improve Native American rights. The voices of these women are fulfilling the warrior woman role that was found in many different tribes, pre-colonization. These women had highly valued responsibilities, in some tribes, this included making political decisions. Indigenous women’s leadership roles and how they influence tribal politics are not often included in history, we are hoping with this collection to shed light on their accomplishments.
