Objects Tell Stories - 2019 NCSS Notable Trade Books #summersessions

This collection hold images from different African American stories from the 2019 NCSS Trade Book Review List.  Each individual image has a matching object image for something that had significance in the individual's life.  The goal of this collection is to give students the opportunity to practice different Project Zero strategies, while understanding that objects can tell a story.  Collected individuals include: Chester Pierce (first African American to play an all white team across the Mason Dixon line), Neil DeGrasse Tyson (astrophysicist), Janet Collins (ballerina), Thurgood Marshall (Supreme Court Justice),

Charles Henry Turner (zoologist and research on bees), George Fletcher (rodeo cowboy), Serena and Venus Williams (tennis players), and Sonny Rollins (jazz saxophonist).

Corresponding books:

Follow Chester by Gloria Respress-Churchwell

Look Up With Me by Jennifer Berne

Brave Ballerina by Michelle Meadows

Thurgood by Jonah Winter

Buzzing With Question by Janice N. Harrington

Let 'Er Buck by Vaunda Micheaux Nelson

Sisters by Jeanette Winter

Sonny's Bridge by Barry Wittenstein

*Note: Not all objects belonged to the individual that it matches.  Rather, the object is one that would have been related to the individual.
