Through a fishing simulation, students model several consecutive seasons of a commercial fishery and explore how technology, population growth, and sustainable practices impact fish catch and fisheries management. Most marine scientists agree that over-fishing and other unsustainable fishing practices are the greatest threat to the health of the oceans. Students will learn about the global marine crisis and the environmental impact of overfishing with this simulation exercise, an activity accompanying the lesson plan "Fishing for the Future."
