Secrets of Scotland Yard: Part 10

In this segment of Secrets of Scotland Yard, learn about how the motorcar brought about the most radical change for Scotland Yard. The inception of the aptly named "Flying Squad" in 1919 used the new technology to be in the right place at the right time to catch criminals red-handed. A decade later, the arrival of state-of-the-art radio allowed them to communicate while on the road. By the 1950s, the Flying Squad was the jewel in the crown of Scotland Yard, making 1000 arrests a year. By the 1960s, the 20,000 Scotland Yard Flying Squad force moved to the location where it exists to this day, New Scotland Yard. However, the 1970s brought more corruption charges to the Yard and a number of Flying Squad officers were sent to prison.
