Taking Soil Apart shows children become soil scientists, or pedologists, and explore sediment using a water bottle, water and a tool for digging. The video models ways for adults to encourage children's growth, self confidence, problem solving skills, and cognitive development through open ended hands on exploration with familiar materials, such as soil and water. Sample conversations that encourage children to discuss their observations are modeled in the video and included in support document activity guide for educators, parents and caregivers. Safety and set-up suggestions are also included with needed supplies list.
